WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) announced a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for the Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene in the amount of $1,000,000. This grant is part of the HHS Comprehensive Community Mental Health Services for Children with Serious Emotional Disturbances Program.
“I’m pleased to announce this significant grant to provide needed resources for our community's mental health services," said Congressman Langworthy. "Mental health is a critical component of the well-being of our citizens, especially our children, and I look forward to continued collaboration with County Executive Wendel and other local leaders on this issue. This funding will help ensure that the Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene can continue its vital work, providing support, treatment, and hope to those in our community who need it most.”
“This funding will go a long way in assisting one of the most venerable populations in Chautauqua County: our children. I thank Congressman Langworthy for his shared vision of protecting youth,” said Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel. “Chautauqua County’s Department of Mental Hygiene and Social Services will use this grant to provide care to children with serious emotional disturbances.”
“This grant, through Chautauqua Tapestry, will strengthen the System of Care (SOC) infrastructure county-wide through a strategic training and implementation plan,” explained Rachel Ludwig, Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene Program Coordinator. “The overall goal of this grant is to improve the mental health outcomes for children and youth, birth through age 21, at risk for or with serious emotional disturbances (SED), and their families. The design will include integration of existing programming, implementation of evidence-based services, and integration for sustainable infrastructure of services and processes.”
“Chautauqua Tapestry will expand screenings and assessment opportunities and create referral pathways to evidence-based practices to meet the identified needs of our children, youth, and young adults,” continued Ludwig. “Furthermore, Chautauqua Tapestry will work collaboratively with partner entities to ensure all required services are provided, and target goals are set, met, monitored, and reported as part of the grant program, including preparing youth at risk for or with SED for an effective transition to adult roles and successful experiences with the responsibilities of adulthood with a focus on a productive future.”
