Grief is a deeply personal journey, and when that grief stems from suicide loss, it can feel particularly isolating. In an effort to provide support and healing for those navigating this unique loss, the Suicide Prevention Alliance of Chautauqua County, in conjunction with the Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene (CCDMH) is offering a Virtual Suicide Bereavement Support Group this spring.
The final session before summer break will begin on April 8 and run through June 10, meeting Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 PM (EST). This is a closed group, meaning registration is required.
A Space for Healing and Understanding
No one teaches us how to grieve, and yet grief is something we all experience. When suicide loss is involved, the process can be even more complicated. This group provides not only a supportive space for participants to share their experiences but also an opportunity to learn about grief and mourning—two distinct yet interconnected experiences.
- Grief is what we feel internally—our emotions, thoughts, and responses to loss.
- Mourning is how we express that grief outwardly, through actions, rituals, and support from others.
Through this group, participants will:
✅ Understand the difference between grief and mourning and how both impact healing.
✅ Share personal experiences in a compassionate, non-judgmental setting.
✅ Explore healthy coping strategies to navigate the emotions of loss.
✅ Connect with others who understand the unique pain of suicide loss.
Registration Information
Because this is a closed group, advance registration is required. Those interested in participating should contact Carri Raynor at 716-753-4522 or via email at raynorc@chqgov.com for more information and to register.
Looking Ahead
This will be the final support group cycle before summer break. Groups will resume on October 7 and run through December 16.
Losing a loved one to suicide is a life-altering experience, but no one has to navigate it alone. Whether this is your first time seeking support or you’ve participated in a group before, we welcome you to join us for this meaningful and healing journey.
