MAYVILLE, N.Y.: Tapestry was developed in 2008 when the first Cooperative Agreement was awarded to the Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). After 14 years and two grant expansions, Tapestry has rebranded and launched a new website today.
The initial grant was called Chautauqua Tapestry system of care (SOC). The name “Tapestry” was selected to represent the weaving of supports and services to create a warm, available and responsive network. The second Tapestry grant was awarded in 2014 and “2.0” was adopted to empower the SOC work to have a more pervasive and enduring impact on the County and region. The joint strategic initiatives of SAMHSA and Tapestry 2.0 included:
- Increasing awareness and education of mental and substance use disorders,
- Promoting educational health and wellness,
- Addressing the prevention of substance abuse and mental illness,
- Increasing access to effective treatment, and
- Providing recovery support.
In 2019, a third grant was awarded to focus on two specific age groups in the SOC. Young children (ages 0-8 years) experiencing serious emotional disturbance (SED) receive activities and services that reflect the unique characteristics of families living in Chautauqua County. Simultaneously, college-aged students (18-21 years) in the transition to adulthood receive integrated supportive care.
The updated logo for 2022-2023 for the Tapestry Resilience grant is a more vibrant and focused-in look at woven threads. There are fewer colors as Tapestry looks more specifically at two target populations while maintaining support for the existing SOC. The threads form a pinwheel in forwarding motion yet return to their supportive roots. The circular shape is a symbol of support as well as playfulness and joy. It serves as a reminder of the childhoods we want for all children.
The goal of a system of care is to provide safe and engaging trauma-informed services to prevent mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. It identifies and addresses concerns as early as possible, strengthens the existing collaboration among community groups, and forges effective coordination to provide the needed support and services for children, youth, and their families.
The new website, www.tapestrychq.com, will be a central location to streamline information about programs and supports for our children and youth. The website highlights community partners providing services in Chautauqua County.
Project Director, Rachel Ludwig said, “I’m excited to have a great marketing team who hold the vision of enhancing the utility of the Tapestry website. The new logo and website provide an opportunity to support our partners in an interactive and consistent way.”
