MAYVILLE, NY – A Silver Creek school bus driver is receiving recognition for his heroic actions during a crash in September.
Michael Pantano, a Silver Creek resident and bus driver for the Silver Creek Central School District, was honored for his heroism by the Chautauqua County Legislature on Wednesday night.
District 6 Legislator Tom Harmon called Pantano a “true hero” as he recalled events of the day.
Pantano was, “driving his bus on Route 20 when he noticed a vehicle approaching in the opposite direction had crossed into the lane of the bus,” said Harmon. “Pantano was able to maneuver the bus without hesitation and prevent a head on collision with the approaching vehicle.”
Even though a collision took place, all 11 students on the bus and the vehicle’s driver were uninjured thanks to Pantano’s quick thinking, attentiveness and concentration on the road.
“The Chautauqua County Legislature honors and commends the heroic efforts and quick actions of Michael Pantano,” continued Harmon. “He has brought honor to himself, the Village of Silver Creek, the Town of Hanover, the Silver Creek Central School District and all of Chautauqua County.”
