Jamestown Man Convicted Following a Felony Trial in County Court

MAYVILLE, NY – A 36-year-old Jamestown man has been convicted of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, a class C violent felony.

District Attorney Jason Schmidt announced the conviction on Wednesday, October 23, 2023, after a jury trial conducted in Chautauqua County Court, where Joshua Hammer, age 36, of Jamestown was convicted of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, a class C violent felony.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Andrew Molitor and Erik Bentley. The trial was presided over by Judge David Foley.

Mr. Hammer was arrested on April 3, 2022 for illegally possessing a hand gun following a traffic stop conducted by the Jamestown Police Department after officers located a loaded firearm in Mr. Hammer’s vehicle.

DA Schmidt would like to thank the Jamestown Police Department for their hard work on this case. Mr. Hammer is facing a maximum sentence of 25 years to life indeterminate in state prison if he is found to be a persistent felon. Mr. Hammer has three previous felony convictions.

Mr. Hammer is scheduled to be sentenced on December 18, 2023.
