Chautauqua County District Attorney Announces Felony Sentences

MAYVILLE, NY – On Wednesday, Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt announced two separate prosecutions have resulted in felony sentences.

James Gnacinski, age 40, of Erie, PA was sentenced in Chautauqua County court by Judge David Foley to a determinate state prison sentence of 6 years plus 5 years of post-release supervision after being convicted of Burglary in the 2nd degree, a class C felony.

Gnacinski was initially charged with Burglary in the 1st degree, a class B violent felony after an incident that occurred in October 2021 in the Town of Westfield; he pled guilty to the lesser Burglary charge on February 28, 2023.

The DA thanks the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office Divisions of Investigation unit for their hard work on this case.

Meanwhile, Michael Bland, age 28, of Buffalo, was sentenced in Chautauqua County court by Judge David Foley to a determinate state prison sentence of 5 years plus 5 years of post-release supervision after being convicted of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, a class D felony.

Bland pled guilty to this charge on April 27, 2023 from an arrest that occurred in March 2022. This is Bland’s second violent felony conviction within 10 years requiring the Judge to sentence him as a second violent felony offender.
