MAYVILLE, N.Y.: -- On behalf of all Chautauqua County residents, I extend my thoughts and prayers to the family of John “Jack” Glenzer.

Glenzer served as Chautauqua County’s second county executive and first republican county executive from November 25, 1983 through December 31, 1989. Throughout his tenure, he focused on creating jobs, improved the county’s road and bridge infrastructure, and even helped open the South County Transfer Station in Falconer, N.Y.

He served our country as a member of the U.S. Army and proudly served our County and its communities as a prominent figure in public service through his time as a Village Trustee for the Village of Fredonia, Chautauqua County Legislator and County Executive.  He was also a past chair of the Chautauqua County Republican Committee and a longtime professor at the State University of New York at Fredonia, where he educated and impacted the lives of hundreds of students.

Glenzer meant so much to so many people in our county. He was a great mentor and friend, who left a legacy for us in county government.

It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the loss of a great civic leader and public servant, who served our country, community and county with honor.
