Police Officer Exam Extended

MAYVILLE, NY – The deadline to apply for the Police Officer examination has been extended as law enforcement agencies across Chautauqua County seek the next generation of Deputy Sheriffs and Police Officers.

Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone announced the extended examination date, which is now August 9, 2023. The exam itself will take place on September 9, 2023 by the Chautauqua County Department of Human Resources at the Gerace Office Building in Mayville, NY.

This exam is being held for future vacancies as Deputy Sheriff in the Chautauqua County Office of the Sheriff and Police Officer in the Towns and Villages of Chautauqua County, City of Dunkirk and the City of Jamestown.

Each application requires a fee of $25, unless an application fee waiver is granted. Those interested in learning more about the fee waiver are asked to contact Human Resources via telephone to (716) 753-4237.

After completing an initial application form, which is graded as part of the examination process, a written and physical test must also take place. If the candidate meets the minimum qualifications, residency requirement and passes the exam, they will be considered for employment.

Additional details, including exam announcements and application forms, are available online at chqgov.com via the “employment” subsection.
