County Executive Announces Selection of New Human Resources Director

MAYVILLE, N.Y.:-- Chautauqua County Executive Paul M. Wendel, Jr. recently announced his selection of Deborah Makowski as the new Chautauqua County Director of Human Resources.

This appointment is subject to the confirmation of the Chautauqua County Legislature. If approved at the legislature meeting on July 27, 2022, Makowski will begin her position on August 8, 2022 and would fill the term of former director Jean Riley, who resigned from the position in early April.

Makowski recently served as Executive Director of Human Resources at Warren General Hospital. In this position, she was responsible for employee relations, benefits management, collective bargaining agreement negotiations, recruitment, orientation, training and development for over 650 union and non-union employees. She also previously worked as a Human Resources Business Partner II at Wells Enterprises, Inc.; a Director of Human Resources and Community Relations at Cockaigne Resort LLC.; and a Human Resources Manager at Matco Tools. 

“Makowski has been a prominent human resources professional for 23 years with proven success in employee relations, benefits, recruitment and training in the health care, manufacturing and hospitality industries,” said Wendel. “Her skillset will be a great asset to county government and I believe she will be a great addition to our team.”

“I pride myself on being fair and consistent in employee relations and policy administration,” said Makowski. “I look forward to working with my fellow county employees and using my knowledge and expertise in the HR field to further promote workforce excellence.” 

Makowski earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management at Buffalo State College in Buffalo, N.Y. She is also a certified Human Resources Professional through the Society for Human Resources Management. She currently resides in Cherry Creek, N.Y.
