MAYVILLE, NY – In anticipation of the upcoming 2024 Solar Eclipse, Chautauqua County Government will close all County Offices and services, except emergency and essential services, starting at noon on Monday, April 8, 2024.

Chautauqua County Government Offices and non-essential services will close from 12:00 p.m. on April 8, 2024, until 8:30 a.m. on April 9, 2024.

This decision aligns with the county's comprehensive approach to eclipse preparedness, which includes traffic management strategies, enhanced emergency response capabilities, and community engagement initiatives.

By closing county offices and services during the eclipse, the county aims to minimize traffic congestion, promote public safety, and enable residents and visitors to fully experience this rare celestial phenomenon.

"The safety and convenience of our community are paramount, and closing County Offices during the eclipse will help alleviate potential congestion and ensure everyone can safely enjoy this rare celestial event," said Executive Paul M. Wendel Jr.

Chautauqua County encourages residents and visitors to plan ahead and take necessary precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable eclipse viewing experience.
