County Offices to Close at Noon in Anticipation of Winter Storm

MAYVILLE, N.Y.:-- Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel has announced that many Chautauqua County Government offices will be closing early on December 23, 2022 in anticipation of the winter storm that is expected to hit the area later this week.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect from Friday morning through Monday morning for Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Wyoming Counties.  This storm is expected to produce 1 to 2 feet of snow. Wind gusts could also be as high as 60 mph and could lead to blowing snow and localized blizzard conditions.

“Considering the upcoming winter storm and keeping the safety of our employees and clients in mind, we have decided to close our non-essential county government offices at noon on Friday, December 23, 2022,” said Wendel. “I also urge anyone who is traveling this weekend to please use caution.”

This early closure will impact a majority of county departments but will not affect essential services. The Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services’ Division of Social Services, Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities (please note CARTS will not be running any rural routes on Friday, but City Fixed Routes and Demand Response buses will be operating), Chautauqua County Office of Emergency Services, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, North Chautauqua Lake Sewer District, and South and Center Chautauqua Lake Sewer Districts will all operate as usual.
