MAYVILLE, NY – Chautauqua County Executive Paul M. Wendel, Jr. regretfully announced Thursday the departure of County Attorney Patrick Slagle, effective Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Slagle, who has served as County Attorney since his appointment in October 2022, has been an integral part of the Chautauqua County Law Department.
Before assuming the role of County Attorney, Patrick Slagle served as the First Assistant County Attorney for the Chautauqua County Law Department, starting in February 2022. Prior to that, he dedicated his legal expertise as an Assistant Social Services Attorney with the Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services.
In his capacity as County Attorney, Slagle has played a pivotal role in representing Chautauqua County in various legal proceedings. His responsibilities extended to overseeing the operations of the County Law Department and providing invaluable legal counsel to the County Executive, County Legislature, and various County Departments and agencies.
Slagle, who has been a dedicated member of the Chautauqua County community, is pursuing a new chapter in his career with the New York State Court System.
Chautauqua County Executive Wendel expresses his gratitude for Slagle's significant contributions and wishes him continued success in his future endeavors.

In response, Patrick Slagle expressed his gratitude, stating, “I want to thank County Executive Wendel for providing me with the opportunity to serve as County Attorney, and for his leadership and support during my time in this office. It's a bittersweet departure, as I will miss all of my colleagues and the wonderful community. I am grateful for the experiences during my time here, and I look forward to the next chapter in my career.”
Slagle's educational background includes graduating from Jamestown High School, earning an Associate’s Degree in Political Science from Jamestown Community College, and obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the State University of New York at Brockport. He further pursued his passion for law by completing his Doctorate’s Degree in Law at the University at Buffalo Law School and is a duly admitted practitioner in the State of New York.
Residing in Jamestown, N.Y., with his wife and two children, Slagle has not only been a legal professional, but also a dedicated community member serving on the Jamestown Public School Board of Education.
The process to select a new County Attorney is now underway, with applications being accepted by the Chautauqua County Human Resources Department. The role will ultimately be appointed by County Executive Wendel.
