Lake Effect Snow Warning & Cold Weather Advisory

Chautauqua County is under a Lake Effect Snow Warning and Cold Weather Advisory until Wednesday morning.
Lake Effect Snow Warning
When: 7 PM Sunday, January 19, through 10 AM Wednesday, January 22
What to Expect:
- Heavy Lake Effect Snow: Total accumulations of 10 to 20 inches, especially in northern areas of Chautauqua County.
- Wind Gusts: Up to 35 mph, causing blowing and drifting snow.
- Impacts: Travel will be very difficult with poor visibility and snow-covered roads.
Precautions:
- If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and limited visibility.
- Submit snow reports through the National Weather Service’s website or social media.
Cold Weather Advisory
When: 4 PM Monday, January 20, through 11 AM Wednesday, January 22
What to Expect:
- Extreme Cold: Wind chills between -15°F and -20°F.
- Impacts: Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Hypothermia is possible with prolonged exposure.
Precautions:
- Limit outdoor activity. If you must go outside, wear appropriate clothing, including hats and gloves, and cover exposed skin.
- Use caution while traveling outside.
